Breon O'Casey

Breon O'Casey (1928- 2011) was the son of the Irish dramatist Seán O'Casey. He was an important figure in the St Ives School and his versatility as a painter, jeweller, weaver, etcher, printmaker, engraver and sculptor linked so many great traditions. His contemporaries included Sir Terry Frost RA and also worked as an assistant to the sculptor Barbara Hepworth.
He developed a personal vocabulary of motifs which featured repeatedly in his work and throughout his life. O’Casey’s repeated references in painting to this single form on a divided ground convey an assurance and strength in his art.
