British born Mia Tarney studied portraiture and figurative painting at The Heatherley School of Fine Art, London, where she was presented the Commendation Award from The Royal Society of Portrait Painters in 2001.
Gravitating toward still life and botanical subjects, she is drawn to the tremendous energy flowers embody and is captivated by their ability to be both delicate and ethereal yet generating a force and strength which compels her to create vast canvases for her compositions. Mia is meticulous in the approach of her study of subtle shades, contrasts, forms and spaces throughout. She aims to capture the essence of her subject and allows it complete ownership of the canvas.
By enlarging the scale, the nature of the subject is intensified creating an arresting landscape and a wall of life.
Her paintings are collected internationally.
